City of Lansing recently issued the following announcement.

The City of Lansing is proud to celebrate Black History Month with our incredible, diverse workforce. We are spotlighting several of these voices to focus on what Black History Month means to Lansing, our employees, and our residents. We honor our Black employees & residents and encourage everyone to celebrate our diversity together.

“As a Salvadoran American, I honor the accomplishments and sacrifices of the African American community and recognize the horrors they endured, and continue to live through, to fight for their rights. Rights that not only African Americans have the freedom to exercise today, but rights that continue to benefit all groups, including the Latinx community. Tu lucha es mi lucha/Your struggle is my struggle.”

-Guadalupe, the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Officer for the City of Lansing’s Human Relations & Community Services Department
