A Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request was sent to Dekalb County, Illinois, seeking information about vendor payments made from the start of the year until September 26, 2024. The request was submitted by us at DeKalb Times, a media organization committed to providing comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs.
The specific records requested include a list of all payments made to vendors within the specified period. The details sought for each transaction are the vendor’s name, the date of the transaction, a description of what the transaction was for, and the amount paid.
As a media organization dedicated to transparency and holding public institutions accountable, we believe that access to these public records is essential in fulfilling our professional responsibilities. Given our role in disseminating information to the public, we have also requested a fee waiver as a media professional under the Illinois Freedom of Information Act.
