The Kalamazoo County Administration announced on Apr. 6 that the west elevator at its Administration Building is now back in service after repairs and inspections. The elevator had been out of operation for several weeks due to maintenance work.

This update is important for visitors and staff who rely on accessible routes within the building. Ensuring the safe and reliable function of elevators supports continued public access to county services.

According to officials, the west elevator underwent repairs and a comprehensive testing process before passing a State Elevator Inspection late last week. The City of Kalamazoo also inspected recent wall repairs, which cleared the final step needed for reopening the elevator safely.

The announcement noted that while the west elevator has reopened, the east elevator remains blocked off and will stay closed until further notice. Additionally, repairs are still ongoing at the north entrance on Kalamazoo Avenue following a vehicle crash on February 21, so visitors are asked to use the south entrance located at the rear of the building.

County officials have not provided an estimated timeline for when remaining repairs will be completed or when full access will be restored.
