Monkeypox is a rare viral infection. In most countries, cases are rarely seen in people who have not traveled to Central or West Africa. There has been a recent uptick in cases in Europe and North America among people who have not visited Africa. Monkeypox cases have not been identified in Michigan or Kalamazoo County and the risk to the general public remains low.

Kalamazoo County HCS is working with our local health care partners to provide information on what to do if a suspected case is identified in Kalamazoo County. For more information about monkeypox and for updates on the current 2022 U.S. monkeypox investigation visit https://www.cdc.gov/poxvirus/monkeypox/index.html

As there are updates to the information surrounding monkeypox, Kalamazoo County HCS will provide that information here.
