November is Pulmonary Hypertension Awareness Month!

Pulmonary hypertension (PH) happens when the pressure in the blood vessels leading from the heart to the lungs is too high. PH can happen on its own or be caused by another disease or condition.

Common PH symptoms include breathlessness, fatigue, dizziness, fainting, chest pain and swelling in the arms and legs. PH affects people of all ages, races and ethnic backgrounds. Although anyone can get PH, there are risk factors that make some people more likely to develop the disease. While not all pulmonary hypertension can be prevented, you can take steps to prevent it by making healthy lifestyle changes and managing high blood pressure, coronary heart disease, chronic liver disease, and chronic lung disease from tobacco use.
