Learn the basic skills of tennis with no experience or equipment required

The United States Tennis Association (USTA), Kzoo Parks, the Douglass Community Association, Tennis Point, and the YMCA of Greater Kalamazoo will host a free tennis class on Saturday, May 14 from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. at Crane Park (2001 S Westnedge Ave).

The class is a fun and free way for adults and kids ages five and up to learn the game of tennis. No experience or equipment is necessary- racquets will be available on site for participants to use. Space for the event is limited and online registration is required.

The class is part of “Play Tennis Midwest”, a series of events being held throughout Michigan and Midwest states to encourage people to try the game. More information about can the series be found at https://usta.com/playtennismidwest

“We’re so excited that USTA Midwest will be hosting this free tennis class for our community. Activities like tennis are a fun way to get out and get active this summer,” said Kya Mitchell, Special Event Coordinator for Kzoo Parks.  “Come see us on Saturday, May 14 and give tennis a try!”

Several parks throughout the city have tennis or pickleball courts available, including LaCrone, Frays, Crane, Upjohn, Rockwell, and Spring Valley Parks. Tennis courts and other athletic facilities are available for anyone to use during park hours.

The class is supported by USTA Midwest and sponsored by Tennis Point. Participants should remain cautious and follow CDC and local health official guidelines to protect themselves and the community from COVID-19.
