CITY OF KALAMAZOO: Voter Registration and Absentee Ballot Information for the November 5 Election

City of Kalamazoo issued the following announcement on Oct. 11.

Where do I register to vote?

You can register to vote at the Kalamazoo CityClerk's Office, Kalamazoo County Clerk's Office, or at any Secretary of State branch office, or by mail until Monday, October 21, 2019 to be eligible to vote in the November 5th election.  If you are registering on or after October 22, 2019, you must register to vote at the Kalamazoo City Clerk’s Office, located at 241 West South Street, in order to be eligible to vote in the November 5th election. 

Anyone who wishes to register on or after October 22, 2019, including on Election Day, must register in person at the Kalamazoo City Clerk's Office and provide proof of residency. 

Documents that will be accepted for Residency Verification include:

  • Michigan Driver’s License or Personal ID Card
  • Current utility bill
  • Bank statement
  • Paycheck
  • Government check
  • Other government document
  • (Items must include the applicant’s name and current address.  Electronic copies of these documents will be accepted.)
When is the last day to register to vote by mail? 

Monday, October 21, 2019

To register by mail, complete the Michigan Voter Registration Application and mail to:

Kalamazoo, MI 49007

The voter registration application must be postmarked by Monday, October 21, 2019.

When is the last day to register to vote in person?

8 pm on Election Day 

Anyone who wishes to register on or after October 22, 2019, including on Election Day, must register in person at the Kalamazoo City Clerk's Office and provide proof of residency. 

Documents that will be accepted for Residency Verification include:

Newly registered voters can pick up an absentee ballot in person when they register to vote at the City Clerk’s Office until 8pm on Election Day.

Who can vote by mail?

All registered voters can vote by mail!

To request a ballot, complete the Michigan Absent Voter Ballot Application, and mail, email or fax to the Kalamazoo City Clerk.

How do I vote by mail for every election?

To receive an absentee ballot application for every election, ask the Kalamazoo City Clerk’s Office about joining the Permanent Absentee Voter Application List.  Please call (269) 337-8793 or email elections@kalamazoocity.org to make the request.

When can I vote by mail?

Absentee ballots for the November 5th election are available now.  You can request to have a ballot mailed to you by Friday, November 1, 2019 5:00 pm.  You can also request a ballot in person at the Kalamazoo City Clerk’s Office until 4 pm on the Monday before the election. 

The Kalamazoo City Clerk’s Office will be open on Saturday, November 2, 2019 from 8:00am until 4:00pm for voter registration and absentee ballots.   

All ballots must be returned to the City Clerk's Office no later than 8pm on Election Day.

Can I register to vote at my polling place?

No, if you are not already registered to vote by Election Day, you must register to vote at the Kalamazoo City Clerk’s Office.   However, you may vote an absentee ballot at in the City Clerk’s Office after you register to vote, or you can take your registration receipt and vote in person at your polling place.
