Kalamazoo County Government issued the following announcement on April 25.
Kalamazoo County Government (KCG) is hiring registered nurses (RNs) for the Health & Community Services Department to assist with the local COVID-19 response efforts.
The temporary positions will be located in a 24-hour temporary isolation facility delivering nursing care, providing education, and conducting disease surveillance. Those hired will provide direct acute care services, active disease surveillance and education to Kalamazoo County homeless individuals to ensure appropriate investigation, and treatment and prevention of further transmission of disease while under quarantine for COVID-19 in a local 24-hour isolate and quarantine facility.
Those hired will have the potential to be exposed to bodily fluids and communicable disease (COVID-19). RNs must be able to wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) to include N-95 mask, gown, and gloves. All necessary PPE will be provided during shift. The OSHA Final Rule Occupational Exposure to Bloodborne Pathogens Act, Category A., covers this position.
To apply, visit the Kalamazoo County Government Human Resources page at www.kalcounty.com/hrd/openings.php. The positions are opened until filled, but KCG is strongly urging those interested to apply immediately due to the need.
In a collaborative effort with local community partners, the Kalamazoo County Health & Community Services Department has a 24-hour temporary isolation facility dedicated for those within the homeless population that have tested positive for COVID-19 or are the contacts of that person. This 24-hour facility is in an effort to mitigate the risk of community spread to one of the most vulnerable populations within the Kalamazoo County community.
It is the policy of the Kalamazoo County Board of Commissioners to provide equal employment opportunities to qualified persons without regard to race, color, sex, age, religion, national origin, marital status, a person's political affiliation, sexual orientation or gender identity, height, weight, disability, genetic information, or any other legally protected status. Veterans are encouraged to apply. Information about the COVID-19 is rapidly changing.
