City of Kalamazoo issued the following announcement on June 23.

The City of Kalamazoo’s Parks & Recreation Department will host five Summer Cinema events this year at different parks throughout the city. The Summer Cinema movie series is presented by Lake Michigan Credit Union and offers free outdoor movies on select Fridays throughout the summer:

  • June 26, Secret Life of Pets 2 at Crane Park (2001 S. Westnedge Ave)
  • July 10, Aladdin (2019 version) at Milham Park (607 E. Kilgore Rd)
  • July 24, U-Pick the Flick at Spring Valley Park (2600 Mt. Olivet Rd)
  • August 7, U-Pick the Flick at Bronson Park (200 S. Rose St)
  • August 21, Missing Link at Frays Park (4400 Canterbury Ave)
At each event the video screen will be set up with music playing at 6:30pm and the movie will begin at 7:30pm. Attendees are welcome to settle into their spot and enjoy some family time in the park before the movie begins.

Community members are advised to still be cautious and follow Centers for Disease Control and Prevention guidelines to protect themselves and others from COVID-19. Social distancing, frequent hand washing, wearing face coverings, coughing into your elbow, and staying home when you are sick are still necessary to prevent the spread of the disease in our community.

Summer Cinema events are free, and all community members are welcome.
