State Rep. Matt Hall (R-Dist. 63) has released a statement following comments from local business owners that said they didn’t have proper communication from Gov. Gretchen Whitmer concerning reopening strategies.
“We heard from local business owners who want to keep people healthy through exercise and keep kids safe in the water, " Hall said in the release issued on the Michigan House Republicans website. "They want to go back to their jobs and lives while operating safely and sensibly. Whitmer shutting them down has had unintended consequences."
Other states have given their local gyms the green light to reopen, ultimately helping treat and potentially prevent health issues like heart disease, high blood pressure, obesity and diabetes, Hall continued in the release, noting also that swim lessons for children can potentially save them from drowning.
As of the end of July, multiple industry leaders have initiated communication with Whitmer’s administration with no response back, Hall said.
