81 percent of applicants to Western Michigan University were admitted for fall 2018

At Western Michigan University, 88 percent of undergraduate students are traditional students - age 24 or younger - and 51 percent are male, according to the latest disclosure from the U.S. Department of Education.

The four-year public institution in Kalamazoo enrolled 22,562 students in fall 2018, including 17,760 in undergraduate and 4,802 in graduate programs, data shows. 8.7 percent of undergraduates transferred from another college or university.

74 percent of undergraduates are residents of Michigan, and 24 percent are residents of other states. 3 percent are citizens of foreign countries.

The undergraduate student body is comprised mostly of students who identify as white (69 percent) and Black or African American (11 percent).

The school admitted 81 percent of the 17,051 students who applied for fall 2018. Of those who were admitted, 22 percent enrolled.
