As flu season approaches, Kalamazoo County Government and the health care providers in the region are encouraging residents to get their flu vaccine.

This flu season represents a unique challenge for the county and for health care providers in the county, especially with the COVID-19 pandemic far from over. Flu vaccines are proven to be one of the best ways to reduce the transmission of respiratory illness, and residents are encouraged to be vigilant in being up-to-date with their flu vaccination.

Groups that are considered at-risk for the flu and the coronavirus are especially encouraged to get their flu vaccination. This includes pregnant women, seniors, young children and those with pre-existing conditions. It's important for county residents to note that the flu vaccine often takes two weeks to start providing protection, so residents are encouraged to seek out a flu vaccination as early as possible to provide maximum protection for the season.

The flu season typically lasts from October to May, and it is expected that with the pandemic looming, there are sure to be additional challenges this year.
