Workers

City of Kalamazoo issued the following announcement on July 20.

Kalamazoo youth are invited to share their ideas for a youth and teen center feasibility study on Thursday, July 29 from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. in the Community Room at Mayors’ Riverfront Park (251 Mills Street). At this input session youth and teens will have the opportunity to learn about the feasibility study and share ideas to inform the features, activities, and design of the facility.

Youth participating in the session will be provided a $25 stipend. Youth and teens that are interested in attending are asked to RSVP by emailing kzooparks@kalamazoocity.org.

From 5:30 p.m. to 6 p.m. Kzoo Parks will provide a light dinner for participants. A presentation will start at 6 p.m. that will include an overview of the project and virtual tours of similar facilities. After the presentation, participants will split up into small group discussions led by Kalamazoo Youth Development Network (KYD Network) to brainstorm and share ideas on what activities they would like to do at the facility and what they imagine it would look like.

“We know how important it is to provide opportunities for our youth,” explained Sean Fletcher, Parks & Recreation Director for the City of Kalamazoo, “and as we plan ahead for this investment we want to include youth voices from the very beginning. Our vision for this project is a youth center that welcomes, inspires, and challenges Kalamazoo’s youth, and we can’t achieve that without their input, so please join us on July 29.”
