City of Portage issued the following announcement on July 20.
Portage Parks & Recreation welcomes The World Famous Glenn Miller Orchestra as part of the summer Concerts in the Park series. On Thursday, July 29 at 7 PM, experience sounds of the Glenn Miller Orchestra at the Overlander Bandshell (7999 South Westnedge Avenue in Central Park). Parking will be available at City Hall parking lot (7900 South Westnedge Avenue), First Reformed Church (7905 South Westnedge Avenue) and Comerica Bank (7941 South Westnedge Avenue) and will open at 5 PM. A drop-off loop will be available at Portage Department of Public Safety (7810 Shaver Road) for those with mobility issues.
“A band ought to have a sound all of its own. It ought to have a personality.” Says Glenn Miller. With its unique jazz sound, the Glenn Miller Orchestra is considered to be one of the greatest bands of all time. The current band was formed in 1956 and has been touring worldwide ever since.
Bring a chair or blanket and don't forget to leave a little room for a dancing. Admission is FREE to the Summer Concert Series thanks to our Series Sponsor, the Arts Council of Greater Kalamazoo. No ticket or registration is required for admission into this event!
