The Parks & Recreation Department of the city of Kalamazoo will host a free event on Saturday, Feb. 12 that will include a variety of winter activities at Spring Valley Park.
Kzoo Parks will host “A Flurry of Fun” at the park located at 2600 Mt. Olivet Rd. The goal is that people attend to “play in the snow,” from 6 to 8 p.m., a press release said. It will take place at the park’s southeast end near the playground and pavilion.
A Flurry of Fun is a new winter event that will feature activities such as sledding, building snowmen, kayak racing, snow painting and winter obstacle course that has five snow-based challenges.
“Winter can be just as fun as summer with a little creativity,” Shannon Keene, special events coordinator for Kzoo Parks, said in a press release on the city of Kalamazoo’s website. “Bundle up, try something new and have a flurry of fun with us at Spring Valley Park!"
A Flurry of Fun’s snowman building competition will give competitors the opportunity to win Family Kik Pool season passes and Kzoo Parks beach towels. Voting will be at 8 p.m. The top three entries will receive prizes.
“A map of activities and parking locations will be available at kzooparks.org/flurry-of-fun leading up to the event,” a press release said. “Colorful LED features and light towers will be set up to illuminate the event."
Coffee Rescue will have drinks available for purchase, with $1 off vouchers.
Participants should follow COVID-19 guidelines from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and local health officials.
Spring Valley Park is one of Kalamazoo’s largest city parks at nearly 186 acres, the park’s website said. The park has 3.2 miles of paved trails and three playgrounds.
