Kzoo Parks and Western Michigan University’s (WMU) Esports will host a new Esports League this spring for high schoolers. Students will compete weekly in 2 vs. 2 team matches in the game Rocket League at WMU’s Esports Arena in the Little Theatre Building on east campus (798 Oakland Drive).

The league will run for five weeks from March 2 - April 8 on Thursday nights. Students can register for one of two time slots: 5:30 p.m. - 6:30 p.m. or 6:45 p.m. - 7:45 p.m. The league will consist of 16 teams total (8 teams per time slot). Each team will play three other teams during their hour-long session, with three 5-minute games per match. Points will be recorded throughout the league to place players in flights for the end of the league tournament on Saturday, April 8.

Registration is available online at www.kzooparks.org/hsrocketleague or in-person at the Kzoo Parks office (251 Mills St) by teams of two players. Before registering students should find a teammate and decide on a time slot and team name. Team members do not have to be from the same school. Registration is $74 per person.

“Esports continues to grow in popularity, and we are thrilled to add a high school Esports league on top of our middle school program,” said Pete Aerts, Recreation Coordinator at Kzoo Parks. “WMU has been a great partner in making these programs a reality for youth in our community.”

The middle school esports league will also return this spring on Mondays from March 6 - April 15. More information on the middle school league can be found online.

Recreation Program Assistance is available to city residents through Kalamazoo Friends of Recreation. Residents can visit www.friendsofrec.org/apply to learn about program assistance, what's covered, who's eligible, and what the benefits are. Participants must register in person at the Kzoo Parks office to use financial assistance.
