Western Michigan University (WMU) and Discover Kalamazoo have collaborated to establish a new space on the first floor of the WMU Student Center. This area, named "The Corner," aims to strengthen ties between the university community and the Kalamazoo region.

A signing ceremony is scheduled for Wednesday, October 16, to officially open "The Corner." The space will serve as an interactive hub where Discover Kalamazoo staff will engage with students, faculty, and visitors from Monday through Thursday. It will feature displays that highlight Kalamazoo County's cultural, recreational, and business attractions. Complimentary publications from Discover Kalamazoo will also be available.

Jeff Breneman, WMU’s vice president for government relations, emphasized the importance of this partnership: “This collaboration underscores our commitment to fostering stronger connections between our University and the wider Kalamazoo community. To ensure our students benefit from hands-on opportunities, we must build meaningful relationships with corporate and community stakeholders. We are excited about the opportunities this space will create.”

Jane Ghosh, president and CEO of Discover Kalamazoo, expressed enthusiasm for the project: “We are thrilled to be a part of this initiative, which will make it easier for WMU’s campus community to explore all our area has to offer."

The Monroe-Brown Foundation provided financial support for this initiative, helping transform "The Corner" into a resourceful space that connects both campus and community.
