Most offices at Western Michigan University will be observing the winter recess from December 24, 2024, through January 1, 2025. Some campus services will have limited hours or be closed during this period until the spring semester begins on January 6, 2025.
Residence halls are scheduled to close on December 13 at 7 p.m. and will reopen on January 4 at 10 a.m. The spring semester is set to commence on January 6 at 8 a.m.
For emergencies during the recess, individuals can contact WMU Public Safety by dialing 911. For non-emergencies, they should call (269) 488-8911.
The office closures affect non-represented university employees, while many represented employees are expected to work as per their contractual agreements since some services continue throughout the recess. Employees with questions about their schedules should consult their management.
Several key facilities and services have announced specific holiday hours:
- The WMU Student Center will be closed from December 15 and again from December 21-22. It will operate on December 23 from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., closing thereafter until reopening on January 2.
- Dining Services will start operating under consolidated hours beginning December 12. Both Student Center Dining and Valley Dining Center will remain closed between December 14 and January 5.
- Offices such as admissions, Bronco Express, and the Office of Student Transitions will not operate between December 24 and January 1.
- The Help Desk is also slated for closure during this period but will resume operations starting January 2 with weekday service from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Transportation services including aviation shuttle service and Metro Transit campus routes like Ring Road, Solon Kendall, and Parkview routes won't be available between December16-January5 but will restart on January6 for the new semester.
Miller Auditorium is set to close its doors from December24 until it reopens on January2. Sindecuse Health Center along with its pharmacy services shares similar closure dates but medical emergencies should be directed towards local hospitals or healthcare providers during this time.
