Western Michigan University (WMU) has announced the closure of all its campuses on Tuesday, January 21, due to severe weather conditions. Essential services will remain operational, but no classes will be held.

The university advises checking the events calendar for updates on specific activities. Event organizers are expected to update their postings to reflect any changes, including cancellations or transitions to virtual formats.

In terms of campus services, the Student Recreation Center and all University Libraries locations will be closed. However, the Sindecuse Health Center and pharmacy will operate from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., while the WMU Student Center will open from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Dining Services adjustments include normal hours at the Valley Dining Center but closures for Student Center Dining, Campus Cafes, and retail food outlets on the first floor of the WMU Student Center.

Historically, WMU has experienced multiple weather-related closures since 1999 due to heavy snowfall, ice storms, and extreme cold temperatures affecting operations. The current closure is part of this ongoing pattern in response to adverse weather conditions impacting safety and accessibility.
