Speaker Matt Hall has expressed concerns regarding Governor Whitmer's recent budget proposal, emphasizing the significant increase in government spending that has occurred since she assumed office. "Since Gov. Whitmer has taken office, government spending has grown by 43% – this budget proposal continues that trend," stated Hall. He indicated that House Republicans intend to scrutinize the budget proposals closely, acknowledging that some of Whitmer's ideas have merit. However, they aim to ensure that government growth does not come at the expense of the taxpayers.

Hall advocates for the assessment of both new and existing government programs to verify their value for taxpayers. "Instead of just adding more taxes, fees and hundreds of new bureaucrats, we should be evaluating her new programs – and the programs we already have – to ensure we are providing value for tax dollars," he commented. Hall highlighted key areas of focus, such as investing in a Public Safety Trust Fund, repairing infrastructure, and reversing tax hikes. These priorities, he believes, can be pursued without increasing taxes by optimizing taxpayer investments.
