Speaker Matt Hall has expressed his commitment to finding a resolution to the ongoing discussions about tipped wages and earned sick time in Michigan. Following the Senate Regulatory Affairs Committee's recent hearing on SB 8 and SB 15, Hall made his stance clear in a statement.

He noted, "I am committed to finding the right solution to the tip credit and earned sick time crisis that protects both Michigan’s working families and our local small businesses." Hall emphasized his willingness to negotiate, stating, "I have come to the table in good faith, trying to meet Senate Democrats halfway."

Hall's approach is focused on achieving a balanced solution that aids the working citizens while not negatively impacting small businesses. He urged Senate Democrats to reciprocate his efforts, saying, "We can get this done now – it’s well past time for Senate Democrats to meet us halfway, accept my offer, and solve this crisis before next week’s deadline."

Furthermore, Hall highlighted the need to prioritize the interests of workers and small business owners above those of labor lobbyists or large businesses. He underlined the importance of ensuring economic opportunities and protections for local workers. In his words, "This isn’t about labor lobbyists or big businesses — it’s about making sure working people and small business owners caught in the middle have a fair and realistic path forward where they can keep their jobs and their benefits, earn a good living, take care of their families."

Hall reiterated his commitment to collaboration and to finding a solution that benefits all parties involved.
