Michigan House Speaker-elect Matt Hall expressed his concerns regarding General Motors' decision to exit the Lansing assembly plant. In his statement, Hall accused GM of "a troubling pattern of fleecing Michigan taxpayers and workers." He criticized the automaker for "cutting a side deal to pull out of Michigan and keeping taxpayer money," highlighting the impact on job losses and GM's continuous request for taxpayer support, noting efforts to "redevelop the Renaissance Center."

Hall attributed part of the problem to the state's leadership, criticizing their tendency to "pay taxpayer money to appease GM." He questioned "GM’s commitment to our state," considering the recent announcement as confirmation of his apprehensions.

In his statement, Hall called upon state leaders to prioritize taxpayers over corporations making "billions in profits" and insisted that "if these are not GM jobs, the company should give back all the taxpayer money." He assured that "House Republicans will always fight for Michigan workers when big corporations try to strongarm our state’s leaders, break their promises, and flat-out renege on deals."
