Western Michigan University is celebrating National Student Employee Appreciation Week from April 13 to 17, honoring more than 2,800 student workers vital to its campus operations. Amanda Jeppesen, a student employment specialist, emphasizes the importance of these students, stating, "Our student employees are not just future professionals; they are professionals right now. Each year, we hear stories of student employees who go above and beyond their roles."

Student employment at Western offers not just financial benefits but also an avenue for skill development. Jeppesen adds, "It gives students the opportunity to develop leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills in real-world settings where their contributions impact the people around them."

To mark their contributions, student employees will receive appreciation gifts from Career and Student Employment Services at The Source in the WMU Student Center. Supervisors are also encouraged to recognize student workers with gestures such as parties or certificates.

"Student employees are essential to Western Michigan University's ability to serve our community and respond to its evolving needs. They are critical contributors to the University's mission," Jeppesen stated, highlighting their role in mentoring peers and running high-impact tasks.

Each year, Western recognizes exemplary student employees with awards. Jordan Moore, studying finance, was named Undergraduate Student Employee of the Year for his work with the TRIO Student Success Program. His nominator praised his positive influence and ability to lead development initiatives.

Teja Lingineni, a mechanical engineering master’s student, was awarded Graduate Student Employee of the Year. His leadership in Dining Services and support for coworkers earned him high praise. "He is always happy to help anyone," his nominator highlighted.

Natalie Faculak, assistant director of events in the Office of Admissions, was acknowledged as Supervisor of the Year for her commitment to student employee growth and program management. Her nominator noted, "The Office of Admissions simply could not function without her."
