Western Michigan University is set to confer degrees at its summer commencement ceremonies on June 28, marking the final address of President Edward Montgomery before his retirement. The event will take place at Miller Auditorium in Kalamazoo and will be available via livestream.
The ceremonies, starting at 9 a.m., will see students receiving over 600 bachelor's degrees, more than 285 master's degrees, over 40 doctoral degrees, and nearly 20 specialist degrees. Graduates represent 31 countries, including the United States.
The morning session includes graduates from the Haworth College of Business, College of Arts and Sciences, College of Fine Arts, and Merze Tate College. At noon, graduates from the College of Education and Human Development, College of Engineering and Applied Sciences, College of Health and Human Services, and College of Aviation will receive their degrees.
In addition to degree conferrals and graduate presentations, there will be vignettes highlighting graduate success stories. President Montgomery's final remarks as president are also scheduled before he retires on June 30. Russ Kavalhuna is set to assume the presidency on July 1.
Entry to Miller Auditorium requires tickets for all guests regardless of age. Seating is limited with general admission policies in place. Tickets for an Extended Family and Friends Livestream Lounge can be reserved by graduates starting June 23 until June 26.
For those without tickets, a livestream link will be available on the Commencement webpage.
WMU holds formal graduation exercises after fall and spring semesters as well as after the summer I session; however, students may also graduate following the summer II session.
