Pfizer has announced a $750 million investment that will create 300 more jobs at their Kalamazoo facility.
The expansion is expected to result in 300 well-paying jobs in order to ensure that Pfizer medicines and vaccines are always operational, according to a news release from the state government.
“Today, Pfizer is making another bold bet on Michigan’s manufacturing strengths and hardworking people,” said Gov. Gretchen Whitmer (D-MI). “This $750 million investment will expand capacity at their Kalamazoo facility, creating good-paying jobs and fostering long-term economic opportunity for Michiganders.”
Whitmer added that the investment was the work of the drug maker and the state government building on the “economic momentum” growing within the state.
“Since 2017, Pfizer has invested $5 billion to support the ongoing growth of our manufacturing leadership in the U.S.,” Albert Bourla, chairman and chief executive officer of Pfizer, said in the release. “This expansion is part of our blueprint to grow our U.S. manufacturing base, create more manufacturing jobs, and help ensure patients everywhere can get the medicines they need.”
The news comes on the heels of Pfizer’s $120 million expansion earlier this year and the $465 million initial investment of the facility.
“At Pfizer, we continue to invest in our manufacturing infrastructure, building a more resilient supply chain so patients have the medicines and vaccines they need,” Mike McDermott, chief global supply officer/executive vice president of Pfizer, said in the release. “This latest investment in our Kalamazoo site will help us advance some of the most innovative manufacturing technologies in sterile injectable production and distribution, while increasing access to these vital medicines. The innovations we put into place in response to the pandemic are now part of our everyday ways of working.
