State Rep. Matt Hall (R-Marshall) is pushing a massive local school investment plan with the aim of no new taxes.
The first-term lawmaker has previously criticized Gov. Gretchen Whitmer over her push for an ultimately rejected 45-cent per gallon gas tax increase to be a part of the new state budget. In the end, legislators moved to approve a $15.2 billion school budget, the largest investment in Michigan history.
“We tried to work with the governor, but she refused to negotiate and we couldn’t wait any longer,” Hall said in a press release. “I voted in favor of this budget to protect additional funding for the kids who attend our local schools. I hope she does the right thing and signs it.”
According to the press release, the $15.2 billion commitment includes student allotment increases of up to $240 more per student with the chance of additional hikes.
