County of Kalamazoo issued the following announcement on July 10.
As construction on the new Kalamazoo County Downtown Justice Facility ramps up, we keep our promise of being good stewards of our community.
This five-story, 165,000- square-foot facility will contain a roof specially designed to help regulate solar heat. The Downtown Justice Facility focuses on economic and environmental progression. The COVID-19 pandemic has hit Kalamazoo County hard, but this project will provide a critical boost for our economy by creating local jobs, streamlining the county’s criminal justice system, and saving our taxpayers money with operational efficiencies.
We emphasized transparency within our criminal justice system and the Downtown Justice Facility glass design creates an opportunity for the public to see justice at work.
This facility will house courtrooms accessible through Zoom and IT rooms that can broadcast a video Livestream of high-profile cases to a nearby conference room available for news media covering proceedings
