Kalamazoo County Sheriff's Office issued the following announcement on Dec 22.
KCSO Deputies receive letter of commendation.
Deputy Troy Miles, Michael Hiemstra and Michael Leeger recently received letters of commendation for their actions during the following incident.
On November 30, 2021 at approximately 13:37, Dep. Miles noticed two individuals in possible distress on the second-floor lobby area of the Kalamazoo County Courthouse. Dep. Miles immediately responded to their aid and found them both unresponsive but breathing. Dep. Miles took immediate first aid action and called for Narcan kits and an ambulance.
Deputy Michael Leeger and Deputy Michael Hiemstra arrived with Narcan and administered the kits to both individuals with Dep. Miles assistance. Upon the arrival of emergency personnel both individuals became coherent and were able to verify they had taken heroin prior to arriving at the courthouse.
The deputy’s quick response and actions not only revived the lives of two individuals but may have prevented further harm to themselves including the possibility of death.
KCSO and Sheriff Fuller commend all of them for their initiative, professionalism, and exemplary performance. Their actions bring a credit to themselves and to the Kalamazoo County Sheriff’s Office.
Congratulations on a job well done!
