The City of Kalamazoo Department of Parks and Recreation has announced the return of the Winter Family Scavenger Hunt, which will take place from Feb. 16 to March 2.
A press release issued by the department said that 30 items will be hidden in 15 participating parks for residents to find for a chance to take home a prize.
The event is free and open to all community members.
“We’re so excited to offer the Winter Family Scavenger Hunt again this year to encourage families to explore our parks and enjoy what winter has to offer in our city parks,” Kzoo Parks Special Events Coordinator Shannon Keene said in the release. “Bundle up and head on out for a fun winter adventure!”
The scavenger hunt will commence with the posting of the scavenger hunt guide at www.kzooparks.org/scavengerhunt at 8 a.m. on Feb. 16.
Residents will find the list of parks, clues, maps inside the guide.
Each participating park will have two hidden items, with one stowed near the roadway while the other is somewhere deeper within the park, the release said.
Kzoo Parks added that the parks will be broken down into different difficulty levels.
Participants are instructed to take a picture with the items they discover and return them back to where they were discovered so others can find them.
After they find and photograph seven items, hunters can upload their images using the submission form at www.kzooparks.org/scavengerhunt for the prize drawing, the release said.
Kzoo Parks will randomly select five winners to choose between a family season pass at Kik Pool or a week of summer camp for one kid.
The first 50 participants will get a free T-shirt for each participating family member.
The deadline for submissions is March 2 at 5 p.m.
Kzoo Parks will contact the winners through email and make the announcement on social media on March 4 at 8 a.m.
