Starting Saturday, October 1, vehicle gates at some City of Kalamazoo parks will close for the fall and winter months. Parks will continue to be open daily from 8 a.m. to sunset.
This will affect vehicle access at Spring Valley Park, Milham Park, Woods Lake Park, and Fairmount Dog Park. Gates at Versluis Dickinson Park will remain closed after Fall Softball is completed. Vehicle gates at these parks will reopen in May.
Residents can still enjoy all of Kalamazoo’s city parks throughout the fall and winter months as nearby parking will continue to be available. At Milham Park, the parking lot on Kilgore Road near the picnic shelter is open year-round, as is the large parking lot at Spring Valley Park near the water tower on Mt. Olivet Road. The upper parking lot will remain available at Woods Lake Park and on-street parking is available at Fairmount Dog Park and Versluis Dickinson Park.
Vehicle gates are closed during the fall and winter months due to reduced staffing and lower use. Restrooms and water fountains are also closed after Labor Day weekend through Memorial Day (restrooms may be available beyond this timeframe for park rentals or special events if possible).
Kalamazoo’s municipal golf courses (Eastern Hills, Red Arrow, and Milham Park) will remain open as weather allows.
