Voting during a special virtual meeting on October 16, the Western Michigan University Board of Trustees approved salary increases and adjustments to health care benefits and insurance for faculty represented by the WMU chapter of the American Association of University Professors (WMU-AAUP).

The board's decision includes a retroactive 4% across-the-board raise for the 2024-25 fiscal year and a 3.25% raise for 2025-26. Additionally, faculty members will receive a one-time payment of $1,000 at the start of the fall 2025 semester.

This year's contract negotiations between WMU administration and the WMU-AAUP focused on economic compensation, health care benefits, and insurance. These discussions were in line with the agreement's plan for negotiations in 2024. The union’s full five-year contract remains valid through September 4, 2026.
